Plainfield Resident Opens FirstLight HomeCare

For FirstLight HomeCare owner Brian Foster, traditional retirement age is just an excuse to find your life's real calling. Foster, 60, transitioned from a career in hospital management to find his calling in helping others and opened a new FirstLight HomeCare franchise, located at 13550 S Route 30 Suite B102 in Plainfield. FirstLight HomeCare provides professional, non-medical in-home care services to seniors and others in need of assistance with daily activities in communities and serves the local area, including Plainfield, Naperville, Lisle, Lemont, Romeoville and north Downers Grove.

"For personal and economic reasons I chose to pursue a new career even though I'm nearing traditional retirement age," said Foster. "But I didn't want to settle for just any job. When I heard about FirstLight, I felt that this is my calling in life and I jumped on the opportunity."

After spending a 32-year career with the Illinois Hospital Association managing for profit business enterprises, a management change in Feb. 2010 meant many positions were eliminated, including Foster's. The new freedom allowed Foster to pursue volunteer work with his church, work with the sports ministry for 5 to 15-year-olds that he helped to create and enjoy some downtime. When he learned of an opportunity with FirstLight HomeCare, he knew it was the right decision and he and his wife invested their retirement funds in the home health franchise.

"My real passion is to serve and to give back to my community," said Foster. "I wanted a service role in my community, and though I love my volunteer work, I needed something else."

In the next year, Foster says he hopes to expand FirstLight HomeCare's service to include Aurora, Joliet and Bolingbrook.
